Thunderbird Freezes

I've used Tbird for a few years with no problems. Recently it has been freezing up for no apparent reason. Also, at times, it won't delete an email. After deleting, the same email shows up again in the inbox. In addition, at times I can't write a new email because when I click "Write" a blank white screen shows up. Some times it won't download new emails. All these issues are random. I've deleted all emails from trash, send, archive, etc. and the problems still occur. I've surfed the web and tried many of the fixes for the problems but they still occur.

So I uninstalled. When I reinstall, Tbird automatically has my address book and calendar entries from the old install. How can that be?

So I create an account to be able to use the forum. Mozilla sends an email to confirm and Tbird doesn't download it. I had to close and reopen Tbird to receive the email. This is one of the problems.

Please try disabling hardware acceleration.

Tools|Options|Advanced|General

No menu? Hold down the alt key.

Junk controls can be found under Tools|Account Settings. You can also find settings to automatically delete messages past a certain age.

Your settings etc are stored separately from the program itself. Hence uninstalling and reinstalling have no effect on your stored data. Read about your profile folder to learn more.

I disabled hardware acceleration and updated to TB 38.2.0. It worked fine until today. Now it won't download new emails again. I had to restart twice to receive emails.

What should I try next?
