Hello there Joea -too.
Is the goal to disable these functions or options within the active Thunderbird software itself on this Linux Mint operating system (version 2026)?
Shall I give you the instructions to disable these options directly within Thunderbird? In this case, open Thunderbird and look for the menu icon (the three horizontal lines).
Whichever way you prefer to get there is fine; you can also access the settings menu by going to 'Edit' and then 'Settings'. Make sure you are on the 'General' tab on the left.
Scroll down to the section 'When new messages arrive'.Disable these features by unchecking the following boxes:
1.Show a alert
2.Show a system notification
3.Play a sound
Hello there
Are you using the Linux Mint operating system, for example version 22.3?
Could you let us know when this issue started and how often it occurred? The bug causing this has now been fixed. Thank you for reporting this to us.
This would concern the email notification itself. As you mentioned, you are only experiencing continuous sound notifications, is that correct?
What on-screen notification did you receive earlier?
Once you have completed the steps above, I can also try to guide you through Linux Mint.

Yes 22.3. Been this way since install of TB.
I had found those settings and unchecked them. But when I looked just now, both alert and make sound were both on again.
Yet this time, after a TB restart, the setting held.
Hello there
Right, well done! If you keep these settings, you should at least be safe from getting these notifications.
If you are using the Linux Mint operating system and have other software or system integration installed, you might also be able to change these notification settings within the Linux software itself. When you have the time, please go to the main menu of Linux Mint and open the System Settings.
Look for the 'Notifications' category.Find Thunderbird in the list.Switch the toggle next to Thunderbird to 'off'.
Or, you can completely turn off the 'Allow notifications' switch all at once.
Do you also see a counter? Is this counter functioning correctly within the software?
As you noted, this started after installing Thunderbird. Rebooting the software should now resolve the notification issue. Perfect
As it has been solved, you can hit the green light button for now.
