When replying to an email or sending a new mail I get the message :- An error occurred while sending mail. Server responded : You need to authenticate when sending mail from (ip address) Please check "message Recipient" and try again. How do I authenticate ? Thanks140.7.1

As of noon yesterday my Thunderbird gets messages, puts them in the trash, then the spam and then sends a message to "spam" at my email provider. Since noon yesterday, I don't get email messages. I don't know what else it could be. If I go to the webmail, I get messages, but as soon as I download them with T-bird, they are in the trash and then sent as a spam notification to my email provider. I really use t-bird a lot so I would really hate to stop using it, it's much more useful than the webmail. Thanks

I'm aware (e.g. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1277401) of how to toggle whether the message window stays open (opening the next message) when an email is moved or deleted. But I would dearly love for it to happen only sometimes.

Specifically, when a new message comes in, I want to read it, usually move or delete it, then read the next new message, if there is one. But if the next message is an old one, I don't want to keep having it shown to me. I keep my inbox fairly tidy, but I'm getting sick of seeing that message from a year ago that doesn't have a better place to be.

So, after moving or deleting a message, if there is an adjacent unread message, keep the window open. Otherwise, close it.

If there's an unread message somewhere else in the folder, don't jump to that one. Trust that I've left it unread for a good reason, and don't want to now constantly get shown it, and also have to remember to mark is as unread again.

If it's easier to look for other unread emails based on dates, a few days (enough to span a long weekend, for example) would probably be enough, a week at the most. Or make that number user-configurable.

I have quite a few tags and quite a few message filters which are set to add tags. In the last few days, although the rule will automatically add a tag when I run it, it seems to be being deleted again almost immediately.

I have deleted several now obsolete message rules in case there was some kind of stack overflow problem, and likewise removed several obsolete tags, but it seems to be still happening. Is there a maximum number of permissible tags and/or a maximum number of permissible rules that invoke tagging?

This is a new phenomenon to me. I am on the latest stable release of Linux Ubuntu and Thunderbird 153.2.0esr (64-bit)

Is this a known fluke. In group with more than one email I see the excerpts and can easily deal with them (delete) but if there is only one in a group I can do nothing?

Maybe I accidentally made a setting, but if I go get email, it sends it to trash and from there marks it as spam and sends it to spam at my email provider. This just started when I tried it this afternoon. I think it was OK in the AM. I use Linux Ubuntu. It moves all emails to trash and then sends them. I just looked at my message filters and they look normal to me, I do have something called SpamAssasinYes, which I remember from years ago that looks at the whole complete header and sends an email to all the providers in it telling them that their user is using their server for spam. Maybe that has changed somehow, but I forgot it was there because it has been there for about 20 years. Should i just remove all those filters and see what happens? I need some guidance. thanks

I posted a question on this forum that I want to delete. I can't find a way to do that. Is there some way to do it? This question isn't really about performance" of T-bird, but about this forum but I was required to make a selection. . . ..

I am using thunderbird client on arch linux. I am trying to filter by adding "Reply-To" as a filter. If i look into the source of the email i am trying to filter (i get like 100s of spam messages and only the Reply To seems to be from the same domain in the end) the Reply-To appears in there.

Any idea how to fix that? The other rules work fine, this one only seems to not work

The method I found successful in creating my Thunderbird profile on a new PC was different from the posted method. I hope this method helps others. Both Ubuntu 24.04.4 Mate and Thunderbird 155.0/ On the source PC I copied the .thunderbird folder to a USB drive. On the destination PC I opened the thunderbird folder (not hidden). Copied 123xyz.default and 456pqr.default-esr to this folder. Replaced profiles.ini with profiles.ini from the source PC. Opened Thunderbird and found my familiar experience.

I have a problem to add my mail account on Soverin.com to Thunderbird under Linux Mint. If I have created the additional e-mail in Thunderbird and I put there a right passord it is not possible to connect Soverin server.

I was having problems with my chromebook. when I start my chromebook and i click on the thunderbird icon it doesn't open ! I have restored my chrombook and reinstalled thunderbird again but the problem is still there. The only way to access thunderbird is to open linux and type in thunderbird and then i have access to thunderbird once I turn off my chromebook and then reopen it once again thunderbird is not working !

hi, snap thunderbird 155.0-1 ubuntu 24.04 keeps asking for passwords of all email accounts after upgrading thunderbird. all passwords are correct and they were not changed. the issue started today after thunderbird was upgraded to 155.0-1. this new version seems to have touched on oauth: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/155.0/releasenotes/

I am struggling to set up calendar and contacts sync between Thunderbird (v155@ubuntu26.04) and my google account. I use a university account to access google services, so my google account is not some.name@gmail.com but some.name@myuniversity.cz. I understand that Thunderbird somehow needs to invoke OAuth2 process with google, but I do not know, what to fill in the "Hostname" or "Location" fields for Contacts and Calendar, respectively. Any help? Thank you.

In the last couple of days I’ve had a couple of alerts from TB when in other apps, seemingly random times, but possibly when I get an email (from memory, about Thunderbird requiring access to my Google account). I haven’t received any emails for a couple of days and I can’t send them (connection to Outgoing server smtp.gmail.com timed out). But, in TB account settings an outgoing server test was successful (Successfully established a secure connection to smtp.gmail.com:465). I also can’t pause calendar reminders, whatever I do they stay on the screen (but I can delete them with the X in the top-right corner). I haven’t changed anything in my TB or Google account settings. I’ve checked authorisations in my google account and TB auth is there. On my (android) phone, I can send and receive emails OK. Could somebody please tell me what settings I did not make ....

I have four gmail accounts, say A, B, C and D. A is the default.

If I send a message from B to an outside email address, the reply routing is returned to the A address and not the B sending address.

If I send a message from B to C then the message is not received anywhere, it simply disappears.

If I open a browser and send a message from B to C then the message is delivered. So I know that the problem is with Thunderbird and not the email service.

Please tell me what I need to change in the settings ....

I want to sync calendars across Thunderbird and iPhone. (Linux Mint 22 Wilma, Thunderbird 140.14.1 esr)

I am trying to use the Apple calendar server to sync with. Using the Create New Calendar dialog box in Thunderbird, then applying the Apple-assigned password, Thunderbird returns "Could not find calendars at this location. Please check your settings."

I would appreciate help with this.

The latest Snap update on my Kubuntu laptop is marked as a BETA version. I haven't selected the BETA stream, and I checked and snap seems to be pointed at the stable version.

I like to keep track of changes at each install and there's no Release Notes available.

Is this an error at your end or do I need to change something to get back to a stable version?
