In order to open an attachment w/Word, I have to save it first. Would like to simply open it from the email. When I try to, it defaults to something that doesn't work and when I attempt to "browse" to get to Microsoft Word, the option can't be found. And yes, I have Word installed. This should be simple.

Go to Tools-Options-Attachments-Incoming and delete what you have there now for Word files.

Then try to open a word attachment and pick Microsoft Word this time.

No Menu Bar with Tools? Press the alt key.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm still stuck. Deleted all word files as you suggested. Still have no option to pick Word when I browse for a program. I find C:/program files/microsoft office, then the options are document themes, media, office 12 & 14 and templates. Don't see Word, Excel, etc anywhere. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I am not sure why you are browsing for the Word application. I deleted my entry in the attachment association screen in Thunderbird and then sent myself an email with a Word file attached. When I double click the attachment to open it this dialog box appears with Word selected.

I check the box to do this automatically from now on and it places this selection on the attachment association screen.
