For a few days now whenever a new tab opens, either by clicking a link in search results or by clicking a link in an email, the cursor jumps to the bottom of the page and I have to scroll to the top of the page. I'm just getting started with Windows 11 on a new computer. What happened to cause this?

What will happen if I reconnect Thunderbird to my email account after being disconnected for almost 2 years?

I had to switch ESP's a couple years ago and have been using their web based email platform since, but a recent outage made me realize I should have on off-line platform again, and I really liked Thunderbird.

When I reconnect, will all the emails from the new ESP download to the inbox on Thunderbird all at once?

Thank you.

It stopped working saying can't load xpcom. When trying to download new thunderbird Avast finds a virus although the claim is The file named XUL. DLL is developed by Mozilla Foundation. The program is primarily used by the software XUL Runner. The file is confirmed to be safe because it is supported by the original developer Mozilla and is used by the popular browser Firefox. The file has not been involved in any virus issue earlier. win64-evo-gen:[Trj]

I had a problem with a new upgrade for TB and was asked by another moderator on this site to update my version of TB (128.1.1esr 64-bit) to v128.2. My version of TB did not recognize the need for an update and so I downloaded and installed TB 128.2. It successfully installed as an upgrade but in a wholly different folder under C:\Program Files\MozillaThunderbird. The previous instance of TB, 128.1.1, was installed in a different location under C:\Program FIles\WindowsApps\Mozilla Thunderbird. Under control panel I see only one instance of TB and that is the new v128.2. Under Windows Settings, Apps and Features, there are two instances of TB.

Both instances appear to be seeing the mail profile so the only thing I want to know is if it is possible and how to remove the old version of TB without losing the mail profiles. Or do I uninstall the new version and roll back? In any event I do not want to lose a mail profile with years of information.

I've recently changed my OS from Suse to Kubuntu. When I used Firefox in Suse there was an option, 'Save Link', which created a .desktop file that I could then click on to load the page. This file could be saved in any folder, which meant it could be filed away in an appropriate place.

When I click on a .desktop file in Kubuntu it will load the page, but there doesn't seem to be a way of creating one with the version of Firefox that has been installed.

Is there a way of one-click creating a .desktop file in Kubuntu that I haven't noticed? (Yes, I can easily create one using Kate, but that could be long-winded for the number of pages I want to save.)

My Thunderbird upgraded to 128.1.1esr this morning and now I'm unable to delete sub-folders and folders under various email accounts. I've tried unsubscribing to the folder/sub-folder and still unable to delete. The folders also show an email count but the folders are actually empty.

Edited to add: also cannot rename folders. Edited to add: cannot create new folders or subfolders.

Importing restored file from Carbonite

Hello, I have been using Carbonite as a backup system on my old computer. Recently the old computer crashed. On my new computer, I was able to restore almost all my Thu… (saznaj više)

Hello,

I have been using Carbonite as a backup system on my old computer. Recently the old computer crashed. On my new computer, I was able to restore almost all my Thunderbird files--about 3 GB (6500+ files). [Only 3 files were listed as "Restored, but the file's contents may differ from the original."--a tiny percentage so I'm not concerned about them.] From the Carbonite restore report, it appears all the files have been restored from an "old location" to a "new location". All the old locations (a list of 150+ pages) have exactly the same names as the new locations--in Thunderbird. When I open Thunderbird, however, I don't see any of those restored files.

When I reinstalled Thunderbird on the new computer, I did set up three e-mail accounts so I could take care of my regular business.

I tried using the Thunderbird import function. I tried importing both from "profile default" choice and by choosing what I thought was the correct profile folder. Both selections got an error message saying: "Import Failed Unexpectedly. More information may be available in the Error Console."

Several questions:

1) Where is the Error Console?

2) Should I first remove all the current e-mail account information from Thunderbird and try to import to Thunderbird with Thunderbird completely empty? (I have all the current e-mail backed up, so I am willing to do this.)

3) Is it possible that if I remove the current e-mail account info that, since the restored files are listed as being in what appears to be the correct location, they will just pop up automatically (Hey I can dream!)?

4) At 3 GB, are my restored files too big to import--can they be imported by breaking down into smaller pieces?

5) Is there another procedure I should be using?

Thank you for your help. Nina

Today just after an auto update of Thunderbird from 115.14.0 to 128.1.1 the ability to drag a selected number of addresses from an address book window to the address field or the cc or bcc field in a new e-mail. We have an address book with sub folders. This has caused undue headaches dragging addressees one at a time. Can anyone help with why this upgrade has cause this or if there is a setting that needs changed. Tried to change back to old version 115.40 but the system I guess changes the profiles so they can't be back loaded.

I have only my profile file (eg 1b3ylg2i-default) from backup. I copied it into the Thunderbird\profiles folder on the new computer. I have tried changing the information in the parent higher up files (installs.ini and profiles.ini) to match, but no luck. Thunderbird complains that it cant find my profile. The source computer is dead, I have only this file as backup.

Is there a way?

The update which was released recently, 130.0 (64-bit) is causing issues across my company. Those who've installed it via the Microsoft Store or had an admin manually install it are unable to launch Firefox, with an "application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022) pop up that appears several times when it is closed and Firefox never opens.

Under About Firefox, I see an error that it is "unable to check for update due to an internal error".

I've been able to get Firefox to install by completely removing it and installing with the EXE as an admin. However when I do I am unable to restore my user's Bookmarks from the JSON file as regardless where that file is, Firefox claims it does not have permission to access the file. The same occurs if attempting to upload a file, Firefox again claims a permissions error. Finally if you download a file, you cannot launch it from the Firefox toolbar, again because of permissions.

The files are in folders that all users have access to, I have confirmed that the user account, SYSTEM and Authenticated Users all have access to the folders the files reside in. I would upload screenshots, but as mentioned Firefox doesn't have permission to do so.

Thank you, Jeremy Hellstrom
