Try starting Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox. That should sort it temporarily, then you van work though any addons/extensions that could be causing it.

If it still happens, then try a full reinstall.

Safe mode didn't work - still slow. "Full reinstall." Sounds like microsoft.
