I'm using Firefox 9 on ArchLinux and even if I disable Bookmarks Toolbar, I still can't see the drop down bookmarks button.

You only see the Bookmarks Menu button if the Menu bar is hidden and the Bookmarks Toolbar is hidden (View > Toolbars).

Wait... This only works in ArchLinux, not in Ubuntu, where you cannot disable Menu bar. What to do then?

The point is that to use the Bookmarks menu if the menu bar is visible and use the Bookmarks Menu button only if you can't access the bookmarks via the Menu bar and the Bookmarks Toolbar because both are hidden.
