Why have some subdirectories disappeared from my bookmarks menu?
From time to time, I find subdirectory of my bookmarks become inaccessible through the normal dropdown menu. If I go through the "Show all bookmarks" option, I can reach them. But this is not as convenient as going through the more traditional method.
Incidentally, this problem has been occurring since the last major upgrade of Firefox, but only incrementally: at first, only one subdirectory disappeared, then another, then another. On top of this, a directory may have several subdirectories, but while one becomes inaccessible, the others remain as before.
I use an iMac with OSX 10.6.8, with the latest version of Firefox.
Thank you all for any help.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
