Built-in VPN formerly appeared but has disappeared

Perey

The Firefox built-in VPN option appeared for me about a week ago, maybe two; I don’t know whether it only just reached me in the rollout, or whether Firefox highlighted it because of the “more bandwidth” promotion. Either way, I activated it. But then, three days ago, I noticed that my browsing was no longer going through a VPN, and that the VPN settings had all disappeared from Firefox.

I’m in Australia. I’m signed into my Firefox account. I’ve tried signing out and back in; restarting this device; and doing as many steps from the Support article “Unable to find the built-in VPN in Firefox” as I could, given that it gives instructions for desktop Firefox, not Android. In particular, I removed one study—not the one named in the article, but a different one with “holdback” in the name (something like “long term holdback H1”).

But does that schedule also include a rollback?

Yes. The availability has been changed based on the endpoint utilization/stability/speed etc., and is being tuned as more people onboard. There are reports of regions no longer available both for ingress and egress, so yes, it might have been available before, and isn't at this moment.

I think the rollout currently changes about once a week, so the bump for this week should arrive any moment. And next week will have another wave…

Yes, the rollout on mobile follows a different schedule. Keep the app updated, have remote features enabled, and once it's available to you you'll see the feature in the app.

Have you enabled in https://www.askvg.com/how-to-enable-or-disable-free-built-in-vpn-in-mozilla-firefox/

No. As I said, no VPN-related settings appear in Firefox at all. Additionally, about:config does not appear to load on Firefox for Android. So it’s impossible to follow any of the steps in that article.

And yes if you are using Android the forum for that is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/mobile

Did I not post it to that category? Then I apologise—I thought I had. I see it’s in that category now, though.

But does that schedule also include a rollback? Removing it from users/devices that previously had it available?
