When I attempt to send replies or new emails I will occassionally get an error message asking me to re-enter my password. I will the try sending the message again, and the second - or third - time it will go through even though I have not done anything to reneter or change the password.

Chosen solution

Delete the saved password, enter it afresh and see if that happens again. You'll find Saved Passwords via Preferences. The SMTP entry is for sending messages. After you've deleted it, send a test message to force Thunderbird to prompt for the password.
