Sent emails not appearing in Thunderbird Sent folder with Gmail IMAP
Hi all,
I’m having trouble with Thunderbird where emails I send don’t show up in the Sent folder. I use a Gmail account via IMAP.
Details: • When I send an email, it doesn’t appear in the Sent folder in Thunderbird - sometimes it does thou. • Sometimes sent emails don’t appear even in Gmail’s web Sent folder. • I have checked my account settings, and the Sent folder is mapped correctly. • I use Thunderbird version: Version 140.0esr on Sequoia 15.5. • I don’t see an Outbox folder in Thunderbird. • Sometimes I get errors related to folder sync (like “folder in use” message).
What I tried: • Restarted Thunderbird • Checked folder subscriptions and synchronization • Verified Gmail IMAP settings • Sent test emails to other accounts — same issue persists
I’d appreciate any tips on how to ensure sent emails are saved and visible in Thunderbird’s Sent folder and on Gmail!
thanks

Gmail IMAP automatically copies sent messages to Sent Mail, so that is the folder to subscribe, and also you must uncheck 'Place a copy in' in Account Settings, Copies & Folders.
You are referreing to Thunderbird? It is strange as some sent emails are saved in the sent folder others not. For the ones are not saved I do not receive the Delivery status notification (failed).
I suggest you follow sfhowe's suggestions and then report on results. You might also log onto your gmail account online where you will probably see the sent messages that were not showing in Thunderbird.

If you apply the recommended settings, messages sent from TB will appear in Sent Mail. Those same messages will appear in the Sent folder that is shown in the gmail webmail interface (which doesn't display a Sent Mail folder). If you send a message from e.g. the gmail Android app or gmail webmail, the sent message appears in the webmail and app Sent folder, and also in the TB Sent Mail.
Confusing? Yes, but it's consistent once you understand the process.
