Is there anyone at Mozilla that I could email to let them know why I'm switching browsers now that 29 is out and why? Does anyone at Mozilla even care?

Chosen solution

Yes, Pale Moon is staying that way. No Australis interface. From the main webpage:

  • Familiar, efficient user interface design (no Australis!)

Plus, the guy that builds Pale Moon has stated elsewhere that he'll keep the current UI as long as the Mozilla code base allows him to. He made several comments on Bug 755593 that were persuasive to me.

I left feedback after I initially posted my question. But again, based on the feedback on Bug 755593, I seriously doubt it matters. A minority of users may switch browsers as I did, but the majority will just deal with the change. As we're expected to do for any software updates. (Disclaimer: I've been a software developer for 22 years. I've never completely taken away existing UI features. Improved them, yes. I've implemented a new UI in two different applications and always left an option for the user to choose the desired UI. As Mozilla has until now.)

Thanks for the suggestions though, particularly referencing the other forums. Your response has been the most beneficial to me.  :)

Firefox 29.0 is not out as it is still on the Beta channel (at build 29.0b3 at moment). Firefox 28.0 was released recently on March 18, 2014

If you were updated to Firefox 29.0 Beta then you were on the Beta channel due to installing a Beta build of a version at some point. If you would like to be on Release channel then install Firefox 28.0 from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Yes, I realized that shortly after sending my message. However, 29.0 will be released on April 29th, I believe. And based on the 2 year debate on Bug 755593, the tabs on bottom feature isn't coming back. Also in 29, I can no longer see the titles of background tabs, even though this was supposedly done to make it "easier to find tabs". Although I modified userChrome.css to change the color of background tabs, I have no desire to install an add-on to get back the behavior that I've had since tabbed browsing was introduced.

Luckily, I found Pale Moon and I've switched to it. Same great browser but with the UI that I've used for years and have no desire to stop using.

You can easily restore the looks and functionality prior to v29 by using an add-on called Classic Theme Restorer and you can find it https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/

Provided the screenshots there, it has the feature you mentioned: Tabs on bottom of the menu bar in the 5th screenshot. You should give that a try instead of dumping 29 when it comes out altogether.

I shouldn't need to install an add-on to restore functionality that Firefox has had for years. Anyway, it doesn't matter to me now. I've installed Pale Moon and I'm loving it.

I used to love having the latest and greatest Firefox. But that hasn't been the case for several releases now. I intended to get off of the beta channel for a while, but never did because I don't restart Firefox that often, so I ended up skipping most of the beta builds anyway.

May be interesting to know if Palemoon is likely to stay that way ?
Is it more likely also to change to the Autralis theme fairly soon ?
Did you research that ?
What did you find ?

You could coment on Feedback but you need to use an up to date Firefox to do that I am not sure Palemoon would count

The change has and is going to be controversial. Presumably there will be other places to comment but I am not sure where is best to suggest.

At present my best suggestion is to comment in another thread. We normally ask users to follow forum guidelines and NOT post in another's thread. IMHO its seems more sense to keep this sort of comment in the one thread, it makes it easier to collate opinion, post good replies and count numbers that way.

I did a little digging around Palemoon's FAQ (http://www.palemoon.org/faq.shtml) and listed under the Will Mozilla and Pale Moon Work Together? question, it says
In addition, there have been and are growing conflicts of interests between Pale Moon and Firefox as far as the so-called UX (User eXperience) developments are concerned. This results in a different user interface approach in Pale Moon. For example, less stress is put on minimizing the size of UI elements or saving every pixel possible to benefit the content area - in this day and age of full HD monitors and laptops that seems to be very counter-intuitive. Australis is considered unacceptable, and will not be aimed for - quite the opposite.

Judging from that, it's safe to assume that Australis won't be included in Pale Moon at any time.

Moses,

Thanks. I had thoroughly read through the FAQ and several posts on the Pale Moon forum before installing. Although it may seem otherwise, the decision to switch browsers is not one that was easy for me. I've been using mozilla/Firefox since it was Netscape Navigator.

Ah. /slap/

Sorry for blaming you for doing something that offended me, when actually I was the one doing it this time.  :(

No problem.

Note: Seeing as Jon has switched over to Pale Moon (as read in answer 552190 made by Jon, I'll be marking that answer as the solution so we can get this question out of the AAQ workflow.
