How do I keep Firefox updates from deleting my saved passwords?

Every time Firefox updates/upgrades, it deletes my saved passwords and rearranges my icons. I have gone into about:config and told it to never check or update, I have gone to Tools|Options|Advanced and told it to never check for updates (not recommended) but Firefox still updates. Opera doesn't seem to be a viable option so IE may be the only other alternative I have unless someone can tell me how to keep Firefox from updating or how to keep my passwords and icons intact once it does.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check
box on a web page to log you in automatically. The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server. If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you anymore and you need to sign in once again.

It is always possible that web servers invalidate cookies if they detect a change in the user agent as the result of a Firefox update. There is no way to avoid this if the server responds this way and you need to login again.
