Why do I now have Yahoo stuff in my Firefox?

I thought I was updating my Firefox browser when I recently made changes, but now I have Yahoo stuff everywhere. I really miss being able to click on "Open a new tab" and finding an array of web pages I frequently visit from which to select. And Yahoo now wants to be my search engine and manage my toolbar. Can I do away with the Yahoo stuff and get just my basic Firefox back?

"More system details" shows Yahoo! Toolbar 2.6.0.20130418072822 under "Extensions". To remove it, see this article:
