A new profile folder is being created every time I use firefox; I cannot save any bookmarks or preferences.
Every time I start FireFox it acts as if it were starting for the first time, I get the message about importing bookmarks from IE and it goes to the 'Welcome' page. In C:\Users\jmoree\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ a new profile folder is automatically created every time I start firefox. If I open/close firefox 5 times, there will be 5 profile folders.
This started when windows froze and I had to reboot. My initial profile folder is now corrupt and I cannot delete it. I've tried chkdsk, ERD Commander, and many other tricks and I cannot get rid of it. I've also tried other things like scanning for virus and malware, starting Firefox in safe mode, well as following the steps to manually recreate a profile, reinstalling, and disabling add-ons and extensions. Nothing seems to make a difference. I tried shaking my fist at it and that didn't work either.
Any help would be MUCHO appreciated!

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Thanks for the info! I tried it but, sadly, it did not fix my issue. :( When I close/reopen firefox, all settings are gone and it still creates another profile folder.
Any other ideas?
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
- Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
- (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
- In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
- Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
- On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
- On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
- Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

No go. As I meantioned in my origional post, I have a corrupt profile folder under C:\Users\jmoree\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. I just realized as well that my C:\Users\jmoree\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profiles.ini is corrupt as well. I'm assuming THAT is why it won't hold a profile. Suggestions?

How to delete locked files.... you can try out this tool for getting rid of the corrupt firefox folder: http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/
If that works, completly uninstall Firefox, delete all the other firefox profile folders - since you seem to can not use them anyway, because it always starts from fresh state and after grabbing that here - http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-aurora.html - try again in creating a profile :)
And Let chkdisk scan for damaged sectors on the drive, that will take a long time.
Still a no-go. I've tried a few different 'unlocking' tools and none of them will work. I keep getting the messages similar to 'this file is not locked'.
I've went around the problem for now by creating another user account. The corrupt file is in the old user's folder. This new account recreated the profiles.ini in it's own folder and now the issue is resolved....at least for the new user account.
However, I still need to get rid of those corrupt files. Anymore suggestions?
This happens if there is a problem with the profiles.ini file.
Try to delete the profiles.ini file.
Make sure that your security software isn't protecting this file against changes and restores a previous version.
Some security software has virtualization or sandbox features that may cause problems by protecting and restoring files in the Firefox profile folder.
You really should make a Scan with Chkdsk for Bad Sectors.
But for now, before you do something like that, i recommend do download that one here: http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html
Has a s.m.a.r.t check - so you can see how the health of your harddisk is in general.
But still, i Recommend big time a check for bad sectors. either using Chkdsk or a hard disk brand specific test tool.
I couldn't delete profiles.ini either; I kept getting an error that the file was corrupt. I tried multiple programs to delete it. I couldn't run chkdsk b/c I kept getting an error something like "new installed program is corrupt and chkdsk cannot run"....something like that anyways; I hadn't installed any new software in weeks nor was AV finding any virus. In short, cannot delete files nor run chkdsk. SO, I created a new Windows profile which put a big bandaid over the problem. However, I kept getting more 'corrupt' errors. *Shaking fist at the computer*
I finally said 'F' it and did a restore from a backup I made about 3 weeks ago. Once I restored the backup I was able to run chkdsk and correct the errors. Now, everything works just fine.
