In FF 18.0.2 there are 4 bars I can activate for use, by putting a tick in the respective option: "menubar, navigationbar, bookmarksbar, addonsbar". (I hope you don't mind the wrongspellings, I have FF in finninsh) When I tick "bookmarksbar", it creates a horizontal empty space below the addressbar. Isn't this space for quickly open often used pages, without the vertical bookmarsbar? Now, it seems that it is impossible to drag any bookmark to it from the addressbar or from the vertical bookmarksbar. There must be a reason for this horizontal empty space but how can I use it? Or have I misunderstood this? I have been searching for the solution, but haven't even seen any question about this. A lot of other stuff concerning bookmarks, but not just this one. Either no-one, except me, care about this thing or then it is working in others machines. All help appreciates!

Chosen solution

go to firefox > bookmarks (or press ctrl+shift+B) in order to open the library. in there you can move bookmarks from the bookmarks toolbar into the bookmarks menu or to the unsorted bookmarks (just by dragging & dropping them into a different location).

hello, yes you're right - the bookmarks toolbar should work exactly as you're explaining/expecting it. can you try to replicate this problem when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

Thanks! 1) I restarted in safe mode and the tab worked as it should. 2) I then restated in normal mode and disabled the hardware accelerating, restarted - the tab still wasn't working. 2) Then I tried with all extension disabled - the tab was still dead. Next thing would be to reset Firefox, but I wonder what will be gone of my defs&stuff? I should me3ntion that I have windows 7 64bit. The problem only occurs in my Lenovo i5 windows 7 64bit machine with finnish version of FF 18.0.2. Maybe this bug only exsist in finnish version, as in my HP7900 windows 7 64bit machine the tab is working as it should, but there I have the english version of FF 18.0.2. Both FF:s has exactly same extensions, addons and defs. Maybe I should make an clean installation of english version, kinda clone the one I have in the other machine. There's FF installation of version called 21a1 - and also version called nightly, are they something to think about - reliable and maybe more developed for a 64bit? Thaks again!

when you reset firefox it will keep your bookmarks & passwords but most of your other configuration & extensions will be reset to the factory default (a backup of your old data will be created on your desktop though): Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

this will most probably address the issue if it did work correctly while you're in safemode. i wouldn't recommend installing a nightly version for troubleshooting purposes, since it might be quite unstable - the release version should work just fine on windows 64bit.

Fine, I did the resetting and now the tab is working. Only problem now is that all my bookmarks and folders are there. I used to had just most used of them there. It seems that only way now to get rid of this is either untick bookmarksbar - they will all dissappear. Or then remove one by one - this will remove the bookmark from everywhere, not only in that bar. Thanks!

Humble thanks, madperson, for shown patience! Now the problems are all solved. I have allways wondered what is difference between those two finnish expressions regarding bookmarks in my Firefox. Stupidly I thought they're both meaning the same. "Bookmaks toolbar" and "bookmaks menu" really make sence. I'll definately install an english Firefox next time and really encourage others, with some skills in english, to do the same. Not that Finnish translators wouldn't do a great job, but since allmost all support and knowledge is in english...

If it happens again then check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar

  • View > Toolbars > Customize
  • Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout

If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar.
If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.
