I'm waiting to download and install the update to Firefox 18.0 pending information as to how big the download is. This is a critical piece of information that needs to be shown up front on all downloads.

I hope this answer is of some help.

I am not sure how big it is, and wonder why you consider this to be critical ?

I would hazard a guess and say it is about 20MB.

The Windows installer package is 20MB, that is the full install, but will be compressed, and I am not sure updates are compressed. Unless you are seriously short of bandwidth something that sort of size seems hardly likely to be a potential problem.

The download depends. If you are doing a partial upgrade (which will happen when upgrading from Firefox 17 to 18) it's about 9MB. If you do the full upgrade (older versions to 18) it's around 20-24MB. Why is this critical? If it's really a big deal you can just go to getfirefox.com and download the full installer, which is about 18mb (it's smaller because of the compression we can use on that and not the update)

Thank you. The reason it is critical is that not everyone has unlimited bandwidth on their internet access. I have to pay extra if I go over 5Gigs/month. That limit gets reached rather easily. For large downloads (especially if I'm approaching the limit earlier than approaching the end of the account month,) I hold off till I can get to the library or another free WiFi location to do the download/upgrade.

It may seem like a small consideration, but including that info up front would be a major show of respect for customers.

Minor update are usually a lot smaller than installing a full version update.

File sizes of available minor updates to Firefox 18:

You can see the file size of the full version if you check the server location where the files are stored.

If you care about downloading quota then it is best to avoid skipping a minor update and also make sure that files aren't locked by other (security) software because this may cause an update to fail with the consequence to download the full version.

Thank you for those links. It would be much better though for the programmers/developers to just provide this info upfront out of common respect for their customers.
