I can no longer play youtube videos in Firefox using Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit.

Nothing has been changed on my PC that I know of, but suddenly youtube videos won't play, even ones I have viewed before. This has been within the last 48 hours.

Additional System Details

Installed Plug-ins

  • Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202
  • Java plug-in for NPAPI-based browsers.
  • This plug-in detects the presence of iTunes when opening iTunes Store URLs in a web page with Firefox.
  • The Totem 3.0.1 plugin handles video and audio streams.
  • DivX Web Player version
  • The Adobe Reader plugin is used to enable viewing of PDF and FDF files from within the browser.
  • Gecko Media Player 1.0.4Video Player Plug-in for QuickTime, RealPlayer and Windows Media Player streams using MPlayer

  • User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0

More Information

I tried disabling all of the plugins.
I also tried Chrome, which did work so I know the problem is central to Firefox in some way.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

The latest Flash player for Firefox on Linux is

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Sorry for the late reply. I downloaded the flash-aid add-on, and now everything works. :)

It seems that it is a problem with AdBlock extension. Maybe youtube blocks AdBlocked browsers????
