I clicked on driving directions for google maps and it took me to commedy central.
when I search a topic in google using Firefox and I click on what I"m looking for I'm taken to something completely different. I have never been to comedy central before, but today when I clicked on "driving directions" under "maps" which was under "google maps" that's where it took me - every time. This has happened before with other searches. The links going through Firefox are crazy mixed up. I have no problems with explorer so I'm thinking I have to go back to explorer.

Hi,
Can you provide an example search that causes this problem? Do you have any addons or extensions installed?
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
