Links take foreever to open.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

If you have F-Secure Browser Protection then see:

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that works.

It shouldn't be slow. Hopefully we can work out a fix for you. Can you give me a bit more information:

What operating system are you using?

Was firefox 11 faster?

Is it only specific links?

What is slow? The opening of new tabs? Or the loading of the page once the tab is open?

Win7 Ultimate / 64-bit i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz 16.0GB RAM DSL (sadly)

Firefox is slow when I click on links. Reading your questions caused me to wonder about my connection speed (and not Firefox). I'll check and post.

Certainly worth checking. I always use: Speed Test

What upload/download do you get?

SpeedTest: Download Speed: 2.56Mbps Upload Speed: 436Mbps Latency: 117 ms

This is after I replaced what I think was a faulty Cat5e cable. Wasn't Firefox. It was a cable. And operator error; I should've done my sleuthing first.

And, yes, we're in the process of upgrading our service (which is dismal).

Thanks for your help.

Pleased to hear it.

Glad I could help.

For me, Firefox 14 and 15 have gone to very slow. It is not a physical problem, as Chrome gets 37 mbps speed download, while Firefox gets only about 8 mbps speed, using the same speed test. It does not matter if I disable all of my extensions, either.
