I'm using Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition [Ver. 5.1.2600] and have been receiving the "Unresponsive script"error message more and more in the past year, while working generally in email or surfing the web...

This freezes my activity 6-12 times per day and usually the error msg. does not displayfor a while... What can I do to resolve this?

Hi mike60657,

Have you looked at the Warning Unresponsive script - What it means and how to fix it Knowledge Base article? There is some good troubleshooting information in there.

Hopefully this helps!

Hi Matt G,

Thank you so much for taking the time... and the help!

I hadn't gotten very far with research, read one or two, so will review further. I did find a new scan -- to address a different issue, and launched that -- which ran for 4 hours plus today. It cleaned out a lot of junk, subsequently have not had the 'unresponsive script' issue too much today.

The suggestions in the article didn't work for me. I've had this problem for about a year; even switched to a different browser for a while, but had increasing problems with that one, too. Usually, the unresponsive script is a Java script, which ends in js: or jsm: followed by a number. There is a JavaScript Debugger, aka Venkman, add-on (access from "Tools" menu) that you can install. Instructions for using the JavaScript Debugger are located here: [http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/venkma.../venkman-faq.html#2.1]

I am still learning how to use the debugger. The first time I got an unresponsive script warning after installing it, the script hadn't run very long and I was able to stop it right away. Just don't use the "debug" button on the warning box (that caused everything to lock up, including Venkman). I hope this is helpful.
