unable to keep my home page in place

Every time i go into the setting and set my home page, it doesn't stay on after I shut down and then get back on it. It will stay on as long as I am on the computer after setting it, but as soon as I close for any length of time when I get back on it goes back to some search site? why and How can I get this to stay on?
