I recently updated to FF 9.0.1. I am on a macbook running lion. Since the update, I can no longer type just mozilla or cnn without having to type the whole address. How do I fix this?

I was able to fix this issue on the last update of FF in the console of FF. Now I am unable to find the command that allows the browser to automatically find the address I am looking for. I know it is not "Autofill". What happens is, I type just "mozilla" or "cnn" and it takes me to my isp's search. Instead of taking me to the most likely site.

Here is where it takes me - http://dnssearch.rr.com/index.php?origURL=http%3A//mozilla/&r=

Can anyone help?

Chosen solution

Type about:config in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click I'll be careful, I promise! button.

  • Preferences that have been modified are shown as bold (user set).
  • Preferences can be Reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

-> In the Filter bar, type keyword.URL

-> In the Filter bar type keyword.enabled

  • right-click on keyword.enabled and click Reset

-> In the Filter bar, type browser.search.selectedEngine

  • right-click the preference browser.search.selectedEngine and choose Reset from the menu

-> Close the about:config tab and then Restart Firefox.

Check and tell if its working.

That "fix" may not work completely or all the time. Road Runner has been re-directing failed DNS requests for almost 3 years now.

There's a hyperlink in that article about setting a pref with RR to opt-out of that "service".

mha007, I used your info the fix the issue I have. In addition to that, I also got still got pushed to road runner DNS search. But at the top of that page, there is a grey'd out link that says "Why am I here?" So I clicked on it and had to opt out of their settings. Disabling their preferences. Here is a copy of the page:

Thanks for the help. And thank you the-edmeister for your input. All of which was very helpful.
