You can install the latest version of Fast Dial from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fast-dial-5721/versions/

I suspect that the developer of that extension has messed up something in the developer control panel for the AMO website for his extension. This page - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fast-dial-5721/ - shows Version 3.4 Released February 11, 2011 130.0 KB Works with Firefox 3.0 - 4.0.* as the "current" version, where the "versions" page shows that 3 newer version have been released since February. Updates for that extension may not be getting found when Firefox is updated because of that error.

That is the only extension at AMO which I have come across with that problem, so I doubt if it is a Mozilla error. You might want to email the author about that problem so he can fix it.
