Firefox reverting to version 3.5?

So I was trying to run a flash file in Firefox and it was loading really slowly. So I rebooted my computer. When it booted up again, my Firefox had changed from version 7 to version 3.5.

This is really, really weird. I went ahead and reinstalled Firefox 7 and everything seems fine, except for having to reinstall some add-ons and my history was wiped. But I can't seem to find any instances of this happening to anyone else. It would bring me great comfort to know that this isn't just me.

There have been a few other reports of similar occurrences, but some users found they had two Firefox program files for different Firefox installations - which is why I asked about that. The only way to make sure is to look at the \Program Files| folder path and see if there are two folders for Firefox or maybe Mozilla Firefox, or something similar.

Firefox always install to the same folder, version after version, but some users do a "custom" install and select another folderset. Also, starting with the Firefox 4 betas, all the pre-release versions - Beta, Aurora, & Nightly - have their own unique folder, separate from where the release versions of Firefox have been installed. That was an issue for some users who tried a Beta and then reverted to the same release version, after it was released - they ended up with two almost identical installations, and had similar problems to your's. They didn't lose add-ons, but the compatibility check ran every time the version they launched was changed.

Any possibility that you had more than one version of Firefox installed, in separate program files folders?

I don't think so.

Hmm. Well, I'm not sure what caused my issue, but it does make me feel a lot better to know that it happened to other people. Thanks. :)
