What is exact effect of "deactivating" a device with respect to Sync ?

I want *one* of my computers (previously connected with my Sync account) to be independent of changes made to the browsers on other computers - and vice versa. When I try to "deactivate" it, the warning message sounds pretty dire - like I will destroy the account and the ability of the browsers on other computers (that I *do* want to sync) to be synced.
