I think the next thing to test would be whether any add-ons are interfering. Firefox disables add-ons that don't list compatibility with Firefox 5, but some add-ons nevertheless could cause issues.

The easiest way to test is to restart in Firefox's Safe Mode.

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Next, try Help > Restart with Add-ons disabled > Continue in Safe Mode (don't check any boxes). This article gives more information on Safe Mode features and options: Safe Mode.

Does that fix it? If so, you may need to disable some add-ons.

I have this same problem - it started happening just after the last FireFox update was installed. I would be very interested in any suggestions as to how to solve the problem, as I have to use MS internet explorer to use my hotmail account now.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

Save your work... then:

1. Clear Firefox's Cache

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"

2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here

While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

You want anything that ends with live.com.

Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does that help?

Thank you for this advice! I didnt follow all the steps, instead i've just disabled all my plugins and its working. what are these plugins for anyway?

I'd have to guess on some of your plugins, but Shockwave Flash is for playing Flash video, so you'll probably need that one.

Do not confuse extensions and plugins.
Plugins are used to handle content on websites like media files.
Extensions extend the functionality of Firefox by adding new features.

You probably have an extension that blocked content that caused your problem.

Can you post a list of the extensions from the Help > Troubleshooting Information page?
