After filling in the address bar with the address I want to link to, pushing enter does nothing, nor does pushing the arrow button, nor does pushing ctrl + enter to fill in the www..com. How do I fix this?

I can only type in words and push enter and it gives me the search results. When I fill in the address bar even when clicking the suggested sites in the list it does nothing. It worked fine for the first couple days of using FF 4.0, but after that it just will not let me fill in an address in the address bar. I have to use bookmarks or search the site on google just to go to it. A very frustrating problem. Has it happened to anyone else? Is there a fix? Or is going back to the previous version of FF the only way? I don't mind the changes in 4.0 since I'm all about customizing myself anyways, but this is a really dumb problem to have to fix.

That indicates that you are using an add-on that is not compatible with Firefox 4. For details of how to troubleshoot this to find out what one is causing the problem see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes

The AVG Safe Search add-on has caused this for some, if you have that one try disabling it.

I found out the add-on causing this is called 'Omnibar'. Thank you for steering me in the right direction TonyE.
