Chosen solution

When you install Firefox 4 choose the custom install option and specify a different location to install it.

You then need to create a profile to use with Firefox 4 (user data such as bookmarks is stored in the profile), for details on how to create a profile see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows

Next you need to set shortcuts for each version so that they open the correct profile, details of how to do that is shown here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Shortcut_to_a_specific_profile

You will not be able to run the 2 versions at the same time. If you want to do that, you nee to use the -no-remote command line argument as shown here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Opening_a_new_instance_of_Firefox_with_another_profile

An alternative approach is to install the Firefox portable edition, this will use its own profile folder and not interfere with the Firefox 3.6.* profile. You can get it from http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/test
