I'm trying to download the ebay toolbar specific to firefox, but it goes in my downloads, and then I click on it and nothing happens- doesn't appear to be activating

The eBay toolbar on the eBay site is for Internet Explorer on Windows only. Is this what you were trying to install (http://pages.ebay.com/ebay_toolbar/)

eBay do have a sidebar for Firefox which is available from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/5202/
