Can not open Firefox. I receive the message The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again. I do as stated and still the problem exists. What is more when I attempt to close the update window it starts to again attempt the update and then states the same. It is an endless loop and as such I can never open Firefox. I am using windows 7 with a 64 bit operating system. I went to task manager and closed all Firefox processes and this does not change anything.

Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).

If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.

Download a fresh copy of Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html) and do a reinstall of Firefox on top of the current version.

If that still causes the same problem then do a clean reinstall and remove the Firefox program folder.
