Why do some links not work in Firefox but work in IE?

I've been configuring email settings on the Virgin media website and found that some links (such as adding a new email address) wouldn't click and didn't show their addresses at the lower left of Firefox as active links do. After trying for some time I decided to fire up the dreaded IE and the links worked fine! The cursor changes to a hand over the links but the links appear dead. I've only noticed it on this site so far and only on some links. I think it may be flash related. I have tried to update all plug-ins but no updates were found.

A bit more info (sorry I'm not a techy). It only appears to happen to links that invoke dialog boxes with fields that need completing, web-page links work fine.

Hope that gives some clues!

Thanks for your help.

I've pinned it down to Java Console 6.0.20 and 6.0.21

Not sure how to resolve it so I'm leaving them disabled for now.

Thanks again.

You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension if you have that add-on as well as you do not need them to run Java applets.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions

See http://www.java.com/en/download/help/quickstarter.xml - What is Java Quick Starter (JQS)? What is the benefit of running JQS? - 6.0

Disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Addons -> Extensions
Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)
