I have a little annoying problem with google and firefox that appeared (don't know if it is firefox bug or a google new policy) In the past when i did a research on google with firefox, the "sharing my location" popup only appeared when i did a location related request (weather, shop/restaurant, roadmap, local news, etc) or only once for few days, but now (like few weeks or months) i have this annoying popup appear basically everytime, even for random search like math formula or fictional stuff (does pikachu or naruto jutsu really need my location?), and even when i type the same research twice, firefox ask for location again, like if it has a golden fish memory of few seconds. How to stop this popup appear when it is not needed without having it permanently enabled or disabled for google site.

Try clearing site cookies and staying signed out of Google.

Does it still happen in Troubleshoot Mode?

yes, its happen in troubleshoot mode, and clearing cookies doesn't solve the problem. And i also noticed it is not only for each new search, in fact, the "asking location" popup appear each time i'am on a google search tab, even without type anything. Like i move on youtube tab and back on google and the location popup appear, i say yes, return on youtube tab and back on google tab a second later, and google ask my location again.

Maybe block location access for Google via "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions".

i don't want to completely block google search location (sometime i use google map or do some shop research) same for google account,i use the features often (photo, docs, video, games, etc) Also i noticed when i clear the cookies and connect back to my account, the problem seems to disappear but only for a while, after only few days having google search working more or less normally, firefox ask me again for location for every single action on google: i type new search less than 5 seconds after allowing firefox sharing location=> it ask again i only refresh the same page => firefox ask for location again i only check another tab and come back to google tab without typing anything => firefox ask location again. I do a search not related to location (like what are biden eyes color) => firefox need location for this too.

Wouldn't Firefox prompt you every time Google asks for your location, unless you tell it to block Google from ever asking?

I'm not sure if there is a way to have Firefox temporarily suppress the requests, so that it will only prompt you again tomorrow. Could you perhaps set Firefox to always refuse location requests for specific subdomains (for mail, search, etc.) but allow it for maps and shop? I don't know what their URIs look like, since I completely avoid their services. Perhaps they are not sufficiently unique.

As an aside, does Chrome just allow those requests by default?

yes, if i check "always remember for this site", it doesn't ask again. But i don't want google search permanently know my position at every search. or have to reset the setting each time i use map. i logged google account on edge, and seems there is no problem for the moment, google search asked my location only once since yesterday. but firefox ask me again almost every hour usually, and every second after few days. maybe there is a bug with the cookies setting on firefox. Because i also noticed, a similar bug on some site. Like a newspaper site asking to choose my preference for cookie almost every day.

Are you using extensions that deal with cookies ?

Detail about websites remembering you is stored in cookies, make sure you keep such important cookies.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.

  • create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you

You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" to clear cookies keeps cookies with an allow exception
    in 102+ version toggling this setting makes changes to the "Clear history when Firefox closes" settings and those settings prevail
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" in Firefox 102+ honors exceptions and keeps cookies with an allow exception, previous versions removed all cookies

Make sure to keep the "Site settings".

  • clearing "Site settings" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions"
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history":
    [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" -> Settings

beside an adblock and norton safeweb, no. but like said, i have the problem even in troubleshot mode with all extension disabled. Also most cookie seems to work normally, since firefox remember the cookie setting and let me logged in most of my favourites site without asking me again for few months. it is mostly for google and few other sites, that firefox seems to have a goldenfish memory for some cookie setting (like location on google search, it forget after half an hour at best, and every second at worst)
