When copying images, instead of an image, a html/webp location link is copied.

The issue relates to copy and pasting images into Whatsapp Desktop. The issue has only been present since they moved from an exe to a Windows Store installation. Whatsapp do not believe it's an issue on their end.

Here's a reddit thread with a few users experiencing the same: https://old.reddit.com/r/whatsapp/comments/13xcbrd/webp_images_not_displayed_in_chat_since_recent/

When right-clicking and copying an image, regardless of whether it's JPG or PNG etc, it doesn't copy the image in, it copies a html document that seems to be a reference to the location of the image. I have attached a picture of what that looks like. It also claims to be a webp, which the original image usually isn't, so perhaps it's some conversion causing the issue?

example for testing: https://old.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/14r2j66/smart_watch_for_not_so_smart_guy/

I have tested this with multiple browsers and the issue is present only in Firefox and Waterfox. Chrome/Edge/Opera dont have the issue. I have also disabled all browser extensions, to see if one is interferring, no dice. Issue still present.

I hope you can help here, this is very frustrating. I dont want to move away from Firefox, i've used it since I was a teenager. Happy to help in any way I can.

Dear user,

Thank you for reaching out to the Firefox Support Forum. I understand that you are experiencing an issue with copying and pasting images into Whatsapp Desktop, specifically when using Firefox. I'll do my best to assist you with this.

Based on the information you provided, it seems that when you right-click and copy an image in Firefox, it copies a webp location link instead of the actual image. This issue seems to be specific to Firefox and Waterfox, as other browsers like Chrome, Edge, and Opera do not exhibit the same problem.

I appreciate the additional details you provided, including the Reddit thread that highlights other users experiencing a similar issue. This helps in understanding the scope of the problem.

To address this issue, I would recommend the following steps:

Clear your browser cache: Sometimes, cached data can cause unexpected behavior. Clearing the cache may resolve the issue. You can do this by going to the Firefox menu, selecting "Options," then "Privacy & Security," and under "Cookies and Site Data," click on "Clear Data."

Disable Firefox extensions: Although you mentioned that you have already disabled all extensions, it's worth double-checking to ensure that none of them are interfering with the copy-paste functionality. You can access the extensions by clicking on the Firefox menu, selecting "Add-ons," and disabling any extensions that might be enabled.

Reset Firefox settings: Resetting Firefox to its default settings can often resolve various issues. You can do this by clicking on the Firefox menu, selecting "Help," then "Troubleshooting Information." In the new tab that opens, click on the "Refresh Firefox" button.

Report the issue to Mozilla: If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it would be helpful to report the problem to Mozilla directly. You can do this by visiting the Mozilla Bugzilla website (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/) and creating a new bug report. Provide all the relevant details, including the steps to reproduce the issue and any error messages you encounter.

As a Firefox support volunteer, I appreciate your dedication to the browser and your willingness to help. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask. We are here to help you.
