Thunderbird attachments show 'Red X' and strike through text. Unable to open or save.

Been having this problem for a couple of days now.

Emails are coming through but the attachments have a 'Red X' before them and the text of the document has a strike through format. When you right click the attachment the options to save, open etc are all disabled or greyed out.

The download of the attachment has been aborted. And it appears perhaps detached. DO you have any security software scanning incoming email?
