Addon Settings, Preferences, and Data Erased and Syncing Disabled After Updating to 99.0.1

more options

Hello,

So my Firefox literally just updated to 99.0.1 and once it re-opened all of my immediate interface preferences were cleared/messed up (Addon Placement, User CSS, Toolbar, etc.) and upon further inspection my various preferences, data, and settings in my individual addons appeared to be erased or missing as well. (OneTab links, Sidebery configuration, etc.).

Syncing also appears to be disabled, as while my account is logged in I get no response whenever I hit the "Turn On Sync" button.

My next go-to move would be to refresh the browser and turn sync on to pull everything back. But while I can re-do most of the interface preferences and such, I had a great deal of links saved in OneTab for various projects, browsing etc. so I am really worried about whether I'd lose that data permanently if it isn't gone already so I'm not sure what to do.

Any help would be most appreciated, thanks!

Hello there! I'm sorry to here that your data has been lost while updating Firefox. Before we try any other solutions, can you please attempt the two solutions below?

Solution 1

If Firefox starts up after an update without your bookmarks and other settings, check whether your data is available in a different profile:

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it. The About Profiles page will open. This page should list at least one profile and could list many.

The profile that Firefox is currently using will show:
This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Please do not delete anything here; don't use any Remove buttons.

Do you have another profile named default or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, click the Set as default profile button for that profile on the about:profiles page. Firefox will use it automatically at the next startup.

For more information see Recover user data missing after Firefox update.

Note: If your bookmarks are not available in another Firefox profile, see Recover lost or missing Bookmarks for other solutions.

Solution 2

If your bookmarks are not in another profile, please use Ctrl+Shift+O to open the Bookmarks Library. On the left hand side of the new window that opens up, select "All Bookmarks". After that, head to the top of the window and you should see something that says:

Import and Backup

Click on it and then select "Restore". Then select the closest date before Firefox was updated.

If either of these solutions worked for you, please write back. If it didn't do the same and we'll try to find another possible solution for you.

Hello,

The only profiles listed are the one currently listed as the default which is the correct profile by all indications, and one that is listed as a temp containing no user data. So I don't think that applies.

Solution 2 also doesn't apply here since my bookmarks are fine, the data I'm concerned about is my saved tabs & links using the OneTab extension which are missing post update, despite the extension itself still being installed.

Currently, OneTab files are stored under

[profile]\storage\default\moz-extension......\idb\

However, these files are hard to read. OneTab used to store data under

[profile]\browser-extension-data\extension@one-tab.com

In a filed called 'storage.js'. You may have a look there and see if your data in within that file.

Keep in mind that "storage.js" may have been renamed to "storage.js.migrated" when it has been migrated to the new location where files are stored.

UPDATE:

Per combination of Infinity__ & cor-el 's suggestions (Thanks), I manually backed up the entire profile folder then refreshed Firefox. I then removed the current OneTab extension that was missing my data and manually copied back the old extension's storage data (the ldb files) into the corresponding locations in the post-refresh profile.

I then booted up firefox and re-installed OneTab using the XPI from the pre-refresh Firefox profile and low-n-behold my OneTab links were back as if nothing happened. (I then immediately manually exported the links to a backup)

Based on what I saw in the settings/folders, the OneTab post-update had a new UUID and corresponding directories in addition to the pre-update OneTab files that actually contained my data. So everything was still there post-update, it just wasn't being pulled because Firefox created a new instance of OneTab with it's own blank slate.

I guess during the update/migration process Firefox got it's wires crossed to where it lost track/broke the link to the original OneTab instance and created a new version of the extension that wasn't linked to the original data?

A lot of my other superficial settings like Sideberry config and Toolbar layouts also didn't carry over so maybe that's also in play, but I can fix that manually so now that I have my OneTab back (and also a manual backup I just made) it's at least not a crisis lol

Don't think I need further assistance right now, though If I hit another wall I'll update further. But if there's any other info I can provide or digging I can do if this is a bug that others have or something for the dev team to track down I'm happy to contribute what I can.

Thanks for ya'lls help! :)
