Font and image suddenly get very big.

Recently, the font and images suddenly get VERY big. What is happening? Am I doing something? I don't know how to make them smaller, to go back to the default size. I then have to open a new tab and reboot the page. This even has my computer helper guy baffled. I am a 76 year-old somewhat computer-savvy woman. This is driving me crazy! I tried one trick offered here of holding control and zero together. That did nothing. Please help

Hi, is this problem on your Mac, or on an iPad?

Firefox for Mac

Command+0 should reset the zoom level on the current page, but if every page is zoomed, you also need to check the Preferences/Settings page. Either:

  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Settings (previously "Options")
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

Scroll down a bit to the Zoom section and look for the Default Zoom selector. If this is not set to 100%, try setting it to 100%.

Did that make any difference?

I have a diagnostic page to gather information about your display resolution if you wouldn't mind taking a look here: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/resolution.php

The specific part I'm interested in is the window.devicePixelRatio line. On a regular Mac monitor, this usually would be 1, and on a Retina display, it usually would be 2. What is yours set to?
