How do I stop Thunderbird from forwarding my email to gmail?

I installed Gmail but still want to use Thunderbird. Any mails that are sent to Thunderbird are forwarded to Gmail and disappear from the the Thunderbird inbox. How do I stop this?

did you perhaps set up gmail to collect mail for the account? They do it about every 15 minutes to half and hour I think.
