Facts: One month old laptop. I sync my Firefox. I have Google.com as my homepage. My new tab opens up a page that says Firefox (nothing underneath like on another computer that, even after signing out of Firefox, now gets Pocket ads below the google search box,( never set up Pocket EXCEPT on this computer a couple of days ago), which does not get the ads underneath ..?) . Issue: Today, I suddenly started having words underlined as I typed in the search box, that are regularly used words, correctly spelled. Never have seen underling in the past. I can’t say for sure where I originally started the google search....whether awesome bar, search bar, or the a new tab, but what I can tell you, this is the address at the top of the google search page which I started having the issue. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1 ..... (address included more plus my search terms). Please also see the screenshot to see the layout of the page since it is different than a “new link page” ..in case that means something. What could it be that is causing this to happen? *please see final note below .....just an fyi, not necessary for above issue, but don’t mind reading and , if it means something to someone as an over all reason for all my problems ...For the past week (some issues longer) I have been having so many weird little problems and I am very confused as to the cause, whether it is Firefox, or the website visited, Internet service provider (AT&T) .... do I have a bad add-on, or virus, or compromised network, (or new laptop, though in following issue, wouldn’t make sense)? An example of another issue: When on Costco.com website I cannot see "reviews" when I click on them. AND, I checked both other browsers and other computers and browsers and CANNOT see it on any of the others so NOT a problem with Firefox. But talked to Costco and they said they can see the reviews when clicked on it) (and yes, cleared cache and cookies on all) I just wanted to add this in case all these different issues mean there is some other type of problem that covers ALL my issues.. (I wish, but I doubt). Thanks for your help.

  • Well, now that I have written this and added the screenshot....I cannot duplicate the problem. Could it have been a temporary Firefox issue?

Do you have a dictionary installed and selected?

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages sub menu. At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.

  • open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.

The spelling checker is enabled if [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a checkmark.

You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

  • Options/Preferences -> General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"

You can look here for dictionaries:

Note that you need a dictionary and not a language pack that provides string translations for the user interface.
