Stop this: when I open Windows 10 (open laptop) but before starting Firefox I get side opening popouts announcing each new email that gmail has received.

I hate this. Seems like a Windows 10 thing but I don't think I ever got them before I switched to Firefox from Chrome. No Firefox option seems relevant.

Hello symonjim,

Would you please check these settings :

3-bar menu => Options => Privacy & Security => under Permissions : "Notifications"

And also :

Change email notifications
