Firefox upgrade today lost all bookmarks. Did have hundreds well organised, now only default set. Bookmarksbackup folder is empty. How do I restore them?

Automatic upgrade of Firefox on my Windows 7 laptop today has lost all bookmarks. Only the default set remain. Approx 30 seemingly random bookmarks are available from top RH corner bookmarks list, but these are not ones that I regularly use. Have read many 'help' items, none helpful. Any advice on restoring bookmarks would be appreciated. Regards BrianW76

Fred, Many thanks for your comments. I owe everyone a big apology, red face time! I don't know how Firefox came to do an update and present me with a new home page and apparently lost bookmarks on my Windows 7 machine. I now realise I normally use Internet Explorer (hope that isn't offensive language on this forum) on this machine. IE still has all my bookmarks. I use Firefox on my Linux machine, that still works perfectly, including bookmarks, so I managed to confuse myself and everyone else. I have noted you points should the problem ever arise on my other machine. Once again many thanks for your help. Regards BrianW76

What about the rest of your profile? history, settings . . . . . Are you using sync?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

Probably not essential, but you can have Firefox import the Windows Favorites so it's "ready to go" in the future. See: Import Bookmarks and other data from Microsoft Edge.
