why do I have 4 firefox 32 opened in my task manager

more options

I have windows 7 SP1 64 bite and when I opened it I was looking at the task manager where it shows 4 foxfire.exe *32 and its using 38% of my memory. I have no experience with this kind of thing but I don't think I should have 4 of these showing up in applications. Please, I am a senior who depends on this computer for so many things and I will sincerely appreciate your time and your help.

BTW if you would ever ask for an imagine of a window how do I do that? Just in case.....thank you

The current ESR is based on 60.0 (60.1.0 ESR) so it is still pretty close in features to current 61.0 Release. The old legacy 52 ESR is almost EOL as 52.9.0esr out on June 26 was the last major update and apart from and security/stability fixes in meantime, it will be EOL on Sept 5 with no more updates then.

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 28.0 r0 by removing it with this tool : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html If you use it Reinstall with Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.134 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

Hi, what you are seeing is suppose to be there. Firefox is a multiprocessor and multi-thread Browser. This means it uses all the cores of your computer chip.

Those instances of Firefox you see are Firefox, add-ons/Extensions, Sandbox and more.

If it is using to much of your ram and your system is unstable or over heating. Then you can make changes to that by reducing or turning off or disabling it completely.

To be Checked and turned off unless needed for accessibility : Please : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.

Multi-Processor Support : Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

Only Disable as last resort.

Multi-processor Can completely disable it this way in about:config : dom.ipc.processCount set to 1 browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

Only move to esr if low ram and old system.

Firefox Extended Release Version : Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.

If do please :

Thank you so very much for going above and beyond to help me. I appreciate your time and your kindness. I also thank you for the easy way you explained how to do things-I don't always get that so kudos to you!!

OK I did fine (I hope) up until I got here: I ran into messages that I dk if I was being given info or instructions. I was absolutely lost in what to do about esr. Sorry. As far as my system it is 9 yrs old but the ram is fine Should you be interested in given it another stab I will try again. Multi-processor Can completely disable it this way in about:config : dom.ipc.processCount set to 1 browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

Hi, your welcome. No if your system is chugging along just fine then stay where your at. the esr version was only a suggestion if things were not playing nice with your old system.

esr remains a option for the future if need be.

Disabling Multi-processor is only a recommendation if need be due to ram shortage, high usage, and high temps.

So if turning them down worked fine then just monitor and you know where it is now and can turn them up again if want to.

The warning is something that has been there for ages for about:config is sorta there to give thought to making changes if you do not know what to do or have not been given instructions on what to change.

The backing up part at he end is a good thing to do so that if something happens you have a copy of your bookmarks. I have them scattered on several drives and also emailed them to my self at several on-line email places since 1995.

So, sounds like all is complete do make a backup of at least your bookmarks to HTML in the options.
