I used to have bookmarks (favorites) on my Firefox homepage, but they have disappeared and none of the Help suggestions have worked. I have bookmarks on my IE Google home page. Please respond with step by step moves that will restore my bookmarks. Thankyou

Is it just the homepage, or is it the Bookmarks Manager also? What about the rest of your profile? history, settings . . . .

Only the bookmarks. I tried to import them but just got another grey bar with a file folder icon and the words "From Internet Explorer'" I want them across the top, not at the left. Thanks

I just noticed that the Bookmarks menu plus the other items "File, View, History,etc" has re-appeared. Thanks for your patience.

Ahh. You were talking about the menu bar. So that you know;

in Firefox 47+ releases.

  • Press Alt or F10 to bring up the toolbar.
    Then View > Toolbars > Customize.
  • Right-click on a blank spot in the toolbar and select Customize.

Look for Show / Hide Toolbars at the bottom left.

There is also a Restore Defaults button at the bottom middle.

Make sure toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible. Open the Customize window and set what toolbars (Show/Hide Toolbars) and toolbar items to display.

  • Right-click empty toolbar area -> Customize
  • "3-bar" menu button -> Customize
  • View -> Toolbars
    *you can tap the Alt key or press the F10 key to show the hidden Menu Bar temporarily
  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette to the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window to the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button in the Customize palette window to restore the default toolbar set.

You can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:

  • click the bookshelf 57 library icon icon on the Navigation Toolbar or alternatively use the Library menu in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button New Fx Menu drop-down list
  • click Bookmarks
  • click "Bookmarking Tools", then click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
The Bookmark Menu button Bookmark Menu icon (star on tray) should appear on the Navigation Toolbar.

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar
