screen resolution changing by itself
When I log on to Firefox my LCD screen resolution automatically changes from the recommended 1440x900 to 640x980. This makes Firefox unusable, blurry with super large icons. At first I thought it might be the video card, the monitor, or perhaps the modem. BUT, the screen resolution doesn't change when I log on using Internet Explorer and doesn't change when I'm only working offline. When I logoff Firefox, the screen resolution reverts to its recommended setting. I have a Dell Dimension E521 desktop. The O/S is Windows 7 Premium with SP1. I've been trying various fixes including uninstalling Firefox and downloading and reinstalling. The Nvidia Control Panel hasn't been helpful, the Device Manager shows both the monitor and the video cards are working perfectly. HELP!!! any ideas???

Check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode or with reduced screen resolution. You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab. Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

Thanks for the replies. But, I had already tried the solution you suggested B/4 I posted here. It didn't work. This morning I checked and the Compatibility settings were all still unchecked. I am accessing Mozilla Support via Opera browser. The only recent change on this Dell has been an updated version of Kaspersky. Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?
How do you start Firefox? If you use a desktop shortcut or pinned Taskbar icon, could you check the command line for anything unusual? It's on the "Shortcut" tab in that same Properties dialog. Typically the "Target" would be no more and no less than this:
32-bit Firefox on 64-bit Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
Other installations: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
Also, if you have been using this same installation of Firefox for a long time, could you try:
Create a new Firefox profile
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using the Start menu search box or the Windows Run dialog. Type or paste the following and press Enter to execute it:
firefox.exe -P
Don't delete anything here!
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Oct2017, and skip the option to relocate the profile folder. After creating the profile, select it and start Firefox in that profile.
Any difference?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.
