In Facebook, when I click "Home", a pause and then the "A website is slowing..." and it takes me to another website. Only happens with Firefox.
In Facebook, when I click on "Home," a pause, then "A website is slowing..." message comes up. If I don't click "Stop" it takes me to another website, always a different one like amazon, ZuLily, etc. Also, it happens sometimes when I click to see a new post that's just been put up. Only happens with Firefox, not IE.

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues.
You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Then reinstall the latest version.
Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
I did all of the above. No difference. Since this is happening only in Firefox, it is obviously a Firefox problem. Note that on Facebook, clicking on Home takes me often to a WEBSITE. Doesn't mention anything about a script.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
Actually, it DID solve the problem! However, I have a question. Does that mean I have to start Firefox in Safe Mode every time?
In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:
- hardware acceleration is disabled (Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> General)
- all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
- default theme is used (no persona)
- default toolbar layout is used
- xulstore.json is ignored
- userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder in profile folder)
- JavaScript JIT compilers are disabled
- plugins are not affected
- preferences are not affected
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
When multi-process windows in Firefox is enabled then Firefox will use more memory and may be less responsive.
You can try this to see if it has effect:
- set dom.ipc.processCount to 1 if it is currently set to a higher value (4)
- disable multi-process windows in Firefox
You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page.
- browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
- browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false
You can open the about:config page: via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
If the above doesn't help,
It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All Of them.
If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.
Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.
