Updated app won't start on Mac, can't open Profile Manager through Terminal, stuck with no Firefox, ARG, HELP!!!
I've restarted, I've deleted and reinstalled, Terminal won't accept the command string on your site, says "The patch directory path is not valid for this application (/Users/S.D./Library/Caches/Mozilla/updates/Applications/Firefox/updates/0)", I'm in the cold with none of my saved passwords, etc. Never had an issue with your programs.

No, I've been through the your help section pretty thoroughly. The app won't start at all (on my iMac - El Capitan). I don't think I have any add-ons installed. The Terminal path on your site fails.
I'm not sure what you try to do with that path.
- ~/Library/Caches/Mozilla/updates/Applications/Firefox/updates/
That is the location where Firefox stores a partial update while downloading the mar file.
If you want to use the terminal to start Firefox with the Profile Manager then you would have to point to the Firefox installation folder (/Applications/Firefox.app).
- /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -profilemanager
Once, again, that's a "nuh-uh." Terminal returns with "The patch directory path is not valid for this application (/Users/S.D./Library/Caches/Mozilla/updates/Applications/Firefox/updates/0)
That's the string it generates when I send the command you posted above
Are there any files in that location?
- ~/Library/Caches/Mozilla/updates/Applications/Firefox/updates/
If there are files in that location then move the updates/0 folder to the trash in case there are (permission) issues with this folder.
You are a genius! That seems to have fixed it. It fired right up, checked add-on compatibility, and here we go! Thank you!
You're welcome.
So... removing. the updates/0 folder works fine. Now, however, Firefox won't update. Every time I restart after update I have to remove the /0 folder and it loads the older version then starts asking if I'd like to update.
Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}
Save the file. Then Close Firefox.
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)
Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac
Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux
If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Do Not remove the profiles folder.
Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.
