Firefox running slow or not loading sites before and after security update


Firefox was slow or would time out loading websites and I got a notice of security update. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8 and Firefox 10.0.1. I've tried saving a new profile in Terminal and it keeps telling me "firefox-bin quit unexpectedly). I've tried to make a new profile and there is no "Firefox" listed under "Library/Applications Support". Google Chrome is wicked quick and Safari is working normally. Firefox is my choice but I just can't use it. Any suggestions that won't cause me to loose my bookmarks, etc.?

Starting the Profile Manager
Important: Before you can start the Profile Manager, Firefox must be completely closed.
On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Quit Firefox.
Navigate to /Applications/Utilities. Open the Terminal application.
In the Terminal application, enter the following:
/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p
Press Return.
Locate your profile folder
The default location of the Firefox profile folder is ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/.
xxxxxxxx represents a random string of 8 characters.
You can locate your profile folder using these instructions:
Open Finder and go to your home folder. Note: Your home folder is usually the short name of your Mac user account.
From your home folder open /Library/, then /Application Support/, then /Firefox/, then /Profiles/. The Profiles folder contains a folder for each profile.

Thanks. Yes I have. That's where I ran into the problem in trying to set up a new profile and found no listing for Firefox under my Library/Applications Support. I can't make a new profile if I can't access Applications Support. I miss Firefox. There are so many things to like about it but it's just not functional right now and I'm apparently not the only person with this problem. Chrome is my current best friend, sad to say.

In abject frustration I went to the Mozilla site intending to try to download a previous version of Firefox to correct my current condition. And, behold, I found Firefox 10.0.2 release just hours old. I downloaded it and stuck it in my Applications folder and everything works beautifully once again.

I find it hard to believe I was the only human on Earth undergoing such suffering and that no one else could offer any help, but now I know that the Mozilla team was on the job. Thanks! I'll report back in a day or so to let you know how well it's working out but for right now I have near Chrome-like speed with all the comfort and control I'm used to in Firefox.

I had, several times, but read the real solution posted above. Thanks.

In the 10.0.2 release notes there is reference to a bug 676780 but (odd) the link doesn't open!
