I've installed the Lightning add-on (4.7.2), in Thunderbird (45.3.0). It appears as installed but always deactivated, and there aren't any "activate" button. My s.o. is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Where can be the problem ?

What are you using - the vanilla version of Thunderbird downloaded from https://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/ ?

Or a package for Thunderbird and Lightning provided via a repository for your distribution? In the latter case please ask in an Ubuntu forum.

sorry for not answering to the answer, I'm an old man and I forget some things. I'm using a package provided via a repository for my ubuntu distribution. So I'll ask it in a ubuntu forum as you kindly recommend me. Thank you very much.

In your case, your distro's repository is the right place to look for Lightning. Use your Software Manager, Synaptic, apt-get or whatever to get the current Lightning.
