Since most of the answers I found pertaining to this particular situation were not helpful, let me please put this here now so that others may find a solution that does work. It is from a forum article here in mozzilla support, so any credit goes to the forum, not me.

I downloaded ADWCleaner, current version. I did find some controversial discussion on the best place to download this program - bottom line, go to their site, itself. IF it attempts to charge you a fee - you are being scammed. The program is free.

My PC was full of unwanted programs, changes to my registry, etc. And I consider myself a careful user. Using ADWCleaner took about five minutes - tops - including the restart. The log that opened after the restart revealed all the disparate pieces of gunk that were found and removed, and best of all, I can watch Netflix again.
