why does the firefox emblem no longer appear in the top bar?
It is disconcerting to not know which browser i am using, as some others also do not display their emblem. This is the same on both of my laptops, one is XP & one is Windows 10.

Hi Horace, the icon is part of the title bar, which normally shows the full title of the current page (the tab is too small to show the full title). You can turn the title bar back on using the Customize pane, there's a button for it in the lower left corner: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.
If that wastes too much vertical height, you could install a lightweight theme to add a color or image behind the toolbar area to make the browser distinctive. The selection is remarkable: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/themes/
There might be other workarounds that are a little more complicated to install...

Many of us are using; Classic Theme Restorer (Customize Australis) {web link} Restore squared tabs, appmenu, add-ons bar, small button view and more on Australis UI (Windows/MacOSX/Linux + Fx 29+).
This will restore many of the things the last upgrades took away.
